Charting a New Course in the Sea Of Information Technology

ECNO has implemented a new and broadened mandate. ECNO intends to expand on its reputation for success, and on the solid foundation of its membership, to assist Ontario School Boards to usher in the new millennium and to advance into the Information Age…

  • New IT Standards
In the late 70’s the ECNO community adopted a series of technology standards for hardware, operating systems, database management and communications. Those standards have realized remarkable success in the areas of performance, reliability and economic benefits. While most of those standards remain viable today, ECNO has embarked on a course to evaluate and to implement new standards. These standards incorporate current and future technology advancements including personal and client-server computing, open database architecture, and browser-based internet and intranet technologies.

  • An emphasis on delivery to the classroom
In the past, ECNO has placed an emphasis on the development and delivery of information systems which support the administrative requirements of School Boards. Today that infrastructure, implemented to support back room applications, has been extended through local- and wide-area networks to become the backbone through which technology and information are being delivered to the classroom. ECNO intends to expand its role to assist Boards to develop and implement a solid technology foundation to support the increasing processing, communications and multi-media requirements of modern-day educators.

  • A Clear Voice for the Educational IT Community
ECNO has established firm contacts with major IT vendors, government bodies, and other educational and IT associations and initiatives. ECNO represents a consistent voice for IT concerns and issues in the educational community.

  • Facilitating Public/Private Sector Partnerships and Alliances
ECNO is expanding upon its successful “Designated Products Program” to seek out and exploit new opportunities for alliances with Government and Private Sector organizations.

  • A Pro-active Approach to IT Initiatives
