cybersecurity - a word that should concern you

Almost everyone will encounter a cyber attack at home or at work some time during the next year.  The consequences of a successful attack can be extremely damaging to you, your family, your students, and the Board. Cybercrime is a big business.  A 2018 report estimated that the worldwide cost of cybercrime is over 6 billion US dollars per year. It’s easy to feel safe in our Ontario Schools online communities, but the risk  of cybercrime is always present.

The protection of personal and private information is also extremely important. As professionals we all have a responsibility to students, staff, parents and the organization to protect and secure their data. As you progress through this training, you’ll see there’s a strong connection between cybersecurity and privacy protection.

There are many ways that we can protect ourselves and others using common sense and thinking critically about what we do online. By the end of this training, we hope you’ll be confident you can reduce the risk of you, your family, your students, and your Board becoming the target of a successful cyber attack or privacy breach.
