ECNO is pleased to announce veteran education technology professional and longtime ECNO member Chris Dale has been appointed to the newly created position of Director of Security Services (DSS) effective July 1, 2023.

The DSS will stay up to date on the latest cyber security intelligence, including cyber threat methodologies, to help school boards incorporate effective security practices in their strategic planning, as well as identify, assess, report, and mitigate internal security risks. Additionally, the DSS will provide leadership to ensure board procedures and activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards. The DSS supervises the five-member Regional Information Security Analyst and eight-member Vetting of Applications for Security and Privacy teams.

“This new role is a vital addition to the ECNO leadership team at a time when cyber security information and protection are of paramount importance for board administrators, educators, students and families,” says Wayne Toms, ECNO Executive Director. “Given his extensive professional experience and knowledge of Ontario’s education system and ECNO’s operations, we are thrilled that Chris has agreed to join us in this position.”

Chris has built a nearly 40-year career in information technology and education, and retired in December 2022 from his role as Executive Manager of ICTS with the London District Catholic School Board. Though Chris’s vision and leadership, the LDCSB became one the leading Canadian School Board’s in the adoption of cloud technologies and services. Earlier this month, Chris was the recipient of ECNO’s prestigious Dan Cousineau award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to technology in Ontario schools.
